English Farm Cheese Fondue & Wine Pairing

Hello Everyone! I wanted to take the time to share with you all about a fun experience my husband and I had last weekend. We bought tickets to a Wine and Cheese Fondue Pairing at English Farmstead Cheese and had the absolute best time! XYZ was there to pair the perfect wines with the cheese fondues. The event was very well put together. Between the appetizer and desert pairings we were able to have a small tour of the facilities and might I say.. its very impressive! I truly didn't realize all that went into the cheese making business. It is obvious that the English family pours the heart and soul into this business and we are lucky to have them apart of our town. They plan to host other events like this in the future so be sure to follow them on Facebook! As always... hope you have a great day and don't forget to #BUYINMCDOWELL
Our First FONDUE Experience was a Success!

Appalachian Pottery Market

This past weekend the Appalachian Pottery Market was held at the McDowell High School Gymnasium. This is a MUST DO event in McDowell County every year :) Vendors from all over NC and surrounding areas gather together to sell their pottery from 10AM-4PM one Saturday a year. This is my second year going to event and I just love it. It's a great place to get Christmas gifts and who am I kidding.. stuff for myself too :) Both years I have gone there was quite the turn out and this year was no exception. There is always a line out the door so be sure to get there early! I believe that they do this the first Saturday of every December so be sure to put it on your calendar for 2018! Happy Monday Everyone… until next time :)

A Tour of the New McDowell Hospital!

Today I had the pleasure of taking a tour of our new hospital with various media outlets. I was lucky enough they let me tag along for purposes of writing this blog post to share with you all today  :) I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about our hospital as it truly is a great asset for our community! Carol Wolfenburg, President of the McDowell Hospital lead us on our tour and it was such a pleasure to meet her! You can tell that she has poured alot of energy and love into this new construction and is proud of what you see today.
As of right now they are planning to open by February 23 2018 but it will likely take until September to finish demolition of the old building, the parking, and areas of the “Terrace Level” of  the hospital.
When you go into the current hospital’s Main Entry you will see these large posters of all our past hospitals. Im secretly a history geek so I enjoyed seeing these. Imagine what those people who built the first hospital in 1908 would think of the hospital we have today :) Something neat to think about!

So lets get down to what I learned today about the new facility:
Our current hospital is approximately 80,000 square feet but the new building is around 105,000 square feet(this includes the medical office building). All of the rooms in the new facility are bigger than the current. Reason being… they really wanted to be strategic with room sizes and to allow a place for loved ones to be while in the room with the patient. Also, the equipment now used for a patient is all very mobile and they need space to move around freely with those pieces of equipment. The new room sizes improve patient experience AND safety! Win Win in my book!

The hospital is licensed for 65 beds but they built for 30. There are 25 in patient rooms and 5 birthing suites that make up the 30 total patient rooms throughout hospital.
So in regards to the layout of hospital. There are three different Entrances.

Entrance 1 houses the ER. Within the ER there are a total of 15 rooms. There are actually 3 “safe rooms” for behavioral health patients. In these rooms they have paid special attention to no sharp objects, solid ceilings, down to the type of furniture used. They really have thought of anything you can think of to protect the patients. There are also two very large trauma rooms designed for the ability to house up to two stretchers each. The layout of these two trauma rooms allow for easy access for the nurses and doctors.
Entrance 2 houses the Imaging Suite, Fluoroscopy, CT Room, Digital Radiography, MRI, and chapel.
Entrance 3, named the “Terrace Level” encompasses the medical office building “Mission Clinic” and houses the Infusion Center As Well. “My Care Now” will also be on the Terrace Level.

Some things I noticed while walking around the hospital was that the room sizes really were very nice! When we went into the birthing side of hospital and saw the sizes of those rooms I was so happy to see bigger rooms than what we currently have :) Not too long ago I went to visit a friend in the hospital after having her baby and it was SO cramped. The new room has lots of floor space, a nice sized couch that converts into a bed/eating area, and large bathroom. Those new mamas need to be pampered :)Thank you Mission Health for helping to do just that :)
Another really interesting feature that they have added to the birthing center is the “Smart Room Technology”. With this a patient can pull up entertainment on the screens in their room, info about the community, and pull up parenting education! The technology is also connected to the nurses and doctors badges so when someone walks into the room their photo will show on the screen and the patient will know that is in fact a Mission Health Employee. LOVE THIS extra feature of safety! I also enjoyed viewing the nursery area. There were two very large windows to view all those precious babies in :)

One of the neatest areas I felt like we visited was the surgery center. I was in awe of the surgery room itself. Carol told us that approximately 90% of the surgeries done at our hospital are outpatient. Within the surgery center they have 3 operating rooms and one endoscopy suite. There are three general surgeons on staff.

We finished the tour by going to the future cafeteria. Probably my most favorite feature about the whole place is the outside FIREPLACE off the cafeteria room. I felt like I was at a rustic lodge sitting outside by the fire, enjoying the mountain views :) I think attention to detail like that is so very important. Most the time, when someone is in the hospital, it can be a nerve wracking experience. Its so great that they have added this area of solitude for people to go sit and relax. Very special place!

All in all, Im so glad that I had the opportunity to get an insiders scoop of the entire hospital. We are lucky that we have something like this in our county! We met one of the workers in the elevator and he was asked how long he had been working there on the construction site. Two years he said! This was a HUGE project and quite the undertaking. Its obvious that everyone’s hard work is going to pay off.

Craft Night at Refinery 13

woohoo! Its NOV 1st you all know what that means??? It means I can OFFICIALLY start playing Christmas music and decorating without getting "too many" looks :) I seriously love this time of the year! Typically soon after Halloween they start to decorate our downtown area. I enjoy seeing all the sparkling lights when you drive by in the evening time.
YES I know Thanksgiving is next.. and I do love Thanksgiving but I like to enjoy my Christmas decor while stuffing my face with turkey, stuffing, and all those wonderful sides :)
My biggest reason in todays blog post it to share about "Craft Night" at Refinery 13. Heidi Barrier with 3 Feather Studios hosts an event (at least once a month) where you can craft while at the tap room! You pick the item you want to create on her website and when you show up the day of event.. its there ready for you! I went to her last craft night a couple weeks ago with another agent in my office and we had such a fun time. Not a crafty person? No worries! This is truly something everyone can do. Heidi is so helpful and does a really great job with helping to tie your project all together at the end. With the holidays approaching us I know that Heidi has schedule multiple events throughout the rest of the year. She has some really cute stuff for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can check out her Facebook Page for all the happenings for rest of year.
To end.. I will share photos of the fun craft project that I made. A dual purpose sign for both Thanksgiving and Christmas!
I love the presentation when you arrive. Your craft project is all ready and tied in a nice little bow :)

Busy crafting away!

Heidi brings SO many colors and different options to choose from

Fun venue for fun event!

Cassie and I with our finished project. Thanks so much to Heidi for all your help!

If you haven't had an opportunity to attend one of these events I highly recommend that you do!
Have a happy day!

Mountain Glory Festival

I love the second weekend of every October! That means it is..... Mountain Glory Festival time! If you haven't visited downtown Marion before during Mountain Glory Festival weekend then let me just tell you what you are missing out on :) The WHOLE downtown is blocked off and lots of vendors set up and sell their handmade items.  I tend to like to get to the festival early because it gets crowded very quickly! I need time to browse around and not miss anything before the masses of people arrive :) hehe. Not only are there handmade goods, but you will find lots of FOOD, games, live music and various activities for the kids. The festivities start at 10AM and go all day until 6PM. Its a grand time and a "do not miss" if you are in the area.
I wanted to share a few photos with you I took during the 2017 festival!

I recently started making signs for clients and family/friends so I got really excited when I saw this booth! They make SUCH cute stuff :) If you are looking for any time of personalized sign.. these are your folks!

Here is the contact info below for the wood sign vendor! They do personalization!

If you haven't already heard... downtown Marion is getting its very first BREWERY. Big stuff folks! The owners of Mica Town are such nice people and I'm so excited for them to open. I bought a "Mug Membership" a few months back and while at the Mtn Glory Festival I decided to get some MicaTown gear. To check on their progress of the brewery be sure to follow their Facebook page. Link below

Every year they have this chalkboard sign and I love to go look at what everyone has written. As I mentioned earlier... I like to get to the festival early so my daughter was one of the first to write something down.. hers was "own a horse" :)

If you haven't been to Refinery 13 yet... then you need to! My good friend Sarah opened downtown Marion's very FIRST TAPROOM! This is a great addition to our downtown. Family friendly venue with lots of great stuff going on! While they were set up during the festival I was sure to pick up a Refinery 13 hat for my husband as he's been asking for one :) Be sure to follow them on Facebook. Link below

I wasn't able to get a card for this vendor but they had some of the neatest jewelry! I got a really pretty violet necklace and have worn it multiple times since buying last weekend.

ohhh.. and did I mention there was food???

A few years ago I started trying really hard to cut out as much processed sugars when cooking. I found myself using honey a lot so I always enjoy when I can buy it locally. Usually its sold in small containers but I was pleasantly surprised when I found it in a large container! This will come in handy during the fall and winter months when I tend to do more baking.

A sweet past client of mine had a really neat booth set up selling all things home made. Necklaces, head bands, soaps, signs, and so much more! I love crafty people!

My last stop was for soap. I always buy from the same people every year and have even ordered online from them before! Sweet people and even sweeter smelling soaps :)

It was a FUN day. Below is a photo of all my "treasures" Can't wait till next year!

a FALL-filled weekend!

Happy Monday Everyone! Hope this post finds you all to have enjoyed your weekend and are having a great start to this work week!
I had such a great  "FALL FILLED" weekend with my little family unit :)
(HOWEVER, it would have been nice if it was just a "little" cooler feeling outside lol)
We started Saturday off with heading down to the Octoberfest in Old Fort! There were lots of vendors, the museum was open, inflatables, and all things fried :)
Here is my crew right before we stuffed our faces with a yummy funnel cake and lemonades!

While we were sitting and eating our funnel cake we noticed that the store across the street was open, Sunnyside Trading CO. I hadn't had a chance to go in there yet so we walked across the street. Y'all, this is SUCH a FUN STORE! I wish I needed to decorate my entire house because I think I could furnish it here :) Very eclectic stuff! We enjoyed looking around.  It appears they have another store in Asheville but its definitely neat to have them here in Old Fort as well! Below is a link to their website:

After we visited Sunnyside Trading company we decided to walk through the Old Fort Museum. Im going to be honest.. this is something I have NEVER done before. shame on me! Anywhoo.. its VERY well put together and has lots of neat information. My daughter really enjoyed looking around as well! I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area.

After Octoberfest we went home to rest for a bit then headed out to our local church for an AUTUMN FESTIVAL. It was so much fun. Pumpkin painting, hayrides, games, and games galore!
I love living in small town USA :)
How did you enjoy your weekend?
